November 10, 2016 - Austere and tannic. Drunk with pot roast and delicious floral notes come through. The fattiness of the roast counteracts the still-significant tannins. Old-style barolo still could stand some bottle age, but why bother?

December 25, 2012 - Nat cork. Still youthfully tannic, but approachable. Earthy, savory - almost dirty but in a good way, very traditional in style. Certainly not fruit driven. Great acidity, lip smacking. Overall was left yearning for more flavors, depth, etc.

September 10, 2011 - Leer, veel bloemen (viool, roos) in de neus. Daarbij kersen en zwarte bessen. Komen in smaak nog sterker naar voren. Toegankelijke Barolo, goed glas.

April 10, 2010 - Bought at Lucianos--excellent taste and paired nicely with the eggplant and fried green bean appetizers. I think this bottle needs several more years of rest. It is an excellently made wine with the good leather and tannins backed up by nice fruit. Had a good finish. (I'm using a true 100 point scale)

(Marengo Barolo Bricco Le Viole) #3; VaynerPAZZZ (based on QPR); COLOR-dark; NOSE-beautiful pomegranate; extremely floral; lilac & lavender; little parmesan/mushroom action; dark cherries; very pretty nose; TASTE-this wine is dry; very heavy on the tannins; austere; little rusty nail coming through; very big, bitter back-end tannins; great length; I'm enjoying the mix of charcoal / rusty nail / raspberry / strawberry; but the bitter tannins are putting me off a bit; will get better w/ 5-7 years in the cellar; AG-91; GV-89
