November 13, 2021 - Dense, coarse and inky black in color. Black plum, vanilla and mocha accents echo throughout, but even after 2+ hours of air this bottle never really opened up and showed the freshness and intensity we expected.

September 26, 2021 - Scarecrow to me is most remarkable for how smooth it finishes. The tannins are balanced; little or no heat despite the high alcohol content. Plenty of acidity. There was more bricking than I would’ve expected. It’s really well balanced for all of the California cult cabs. I’m a big fan.

March 17, 2020 - Simply fantastic! Still a ton of life left, but it’s so delicious I may not be able to wait to open the next bottle!!

February 29, 2020 - Two hour slow O, followed by three hour decant, enjoyed in a Zalto burgundy glass.

Full on purple black in the glass, the aromatics are Napa Cab richness all the way.

Full bodied and chewy, the wine is almost creamy in texture. Tannins are resolved and the acid is there, serving its purpose, quietly stopping this wine from being too rich.

For being 15.4% alcohol, the wine is surprisingly smooth with no heat on the back end. Yet, there is no denying the overt richness.

As dense and as rich as one of those triple layer chocolate fudge cakes with chocolate frosting. Rich dark fruits, cassis, all wrapped in tobacco leaves with just a hint of cedar.

Lush and hedonistic, this wine feels as if it has entered a nice drinking window. Unsure of what these particular bottling gain with further age, I’d say this is sure a nice spot developmentally.

Upon returning to the Horsepower Tribe bottling, it now feels almost watery in comparison to the Scarecrow.

January 17, 2020 - PnP- no notes. Delicious but feel like it is at its peak. Drink now and enjoy a beautiful wine.

December 16, 2019 - Democratic Wine Dinner (My house): Decanted 1 hour. This wine was dense and bordering on jammy. It opened up with more air, but the fruit is still really dense and hearty. Besides fruit, there is fertile earth. Among the 6 of us, everyone else liked this wine more than I did, but 93 is still a pretty darn good score.

December 11, 2019 - Wines of Democracy (Joe & Kehm's Place, Mpls, MN): Very dark red/purple color. Decanted for 1 hour; drank a glass over 2 hours. This is all about the fruit, dense, dark, cassis, brambly. The palate is full bodied, concnetrated, very well balanced without a nuance of heat; layers of very pretty brambly dark berries with some graphite. This is really about this beautiful fruit, and it is super now. I'm not sure if this gets better or just maintains over the next 10 or so years. 94+ to 95pts.
