Community Tasting Notes 2

February 11, 2009 - Deep, dark purple.. Nearly black. Opened and tried quickly. Way too hot. Alcohol seems higher than the 14.6% listed. I would put at 15+... After an hour the heat backed down and this became quite a lovely wine. Nose of black currant, tad of raspberry. Palate of dark fruits and chocolate. Remarkably well balanced given my first sip and the alcohol levels. There is a floral finish I don't find in many Cali Syrahs. I wish I had gone with a richer meat than I did tonight. Would be great with a NY Strip.
I was privileged enough to be given this bottle today, and am thrilled to now be downing it. Many thanks to KevinS for treating me to a real pleasure.

January 7, 2009 - Nicely balanced Cali Syrah. I would have said Northern Rhone rather than California if I'd tasted this blind. I'll be buying more of this for sure.
