March 7, 2017 - Dumien-Serrette (RSJ, London): Cloudy. Quite mellow, mature and evolved on the nose. Plenty of feral interest cut through with the same high acidity noted when last tasted in 2008. Tasty. (*)***

January 22, 2015 - Geeky Syrah Night at Browntrout (Chicago, IL): Double-decanted 12 hours before serving. Perhaps there was a touch of heat damage on this bottle. There was a sulphur-y rubbery smell, but that did seem to blow off after a while... but then what did the decanting do...? There's a bigger whiff of the same funk from the 2011 Chaillot I had alongside. This was quite ripe and fruity, but there was a very prevalent animale quality to it on the palate. Still, quite good, and definitely ready now.

January 17, 2011 - Either this wine has very little shelf life or it was poorly stored. No signs of seepage, but bricking was fairly advanced and it was well along the far side of its life curve. Still interesting, but not particularly drinkable.

April 5, 2010 - Gamey, delicious, on the nose and in the mouth, ideal with our wild rabbit!

December 11, 2009 - Tasted alongside a 99 Verset this was a beautifully mature Cornas. All the character and complexity of the better years with a lovely mouth filling sweetness through the middle. More mineral in its flavour profile than the Verset (see note) and excellent value.

October 12, 2009 - Boys night with a few bottles of Cornas and other treats. (Reno, NV): Kind of disappointing... the wine aromatically soars, especially with time in the decanter and has loads of classic Cornas aromas of meat, red fruits and, spices... on the palate this wine is off the charts acidic and firm and the finish seems a bit pinched and short. I don't know if this is the vintage or what... I haven't had a ton of 97 Cornas... I'm not so sure the textural issues of this wine will resolve with time or not but I would give the wine time (4 or 5 years ) or have with food. "Good" wine at best because of palate problems... so much aromatics and good depth of fruit though.

October 11, 2008 - Big smoky fragrance, on the palate, earthy, stalky, wild and unrefined, searing acidity - real old fashioned cornas

October 4, 2008 - Lovely colour, still deep ruby. Initially a strong nose of blood and rust, but then evolving into of ripe blueberry-dominated fruit. Could almost be a Cal-cab now. The fruit to the fore on the attack but the middle and finish dominated by a huge acidity that is almost overpowering. After 15 hours this profile hasn't changed. Will try again after 48 hours. Thick-fruited and mouth-filling, but for me this is marred by excessive acidity. Is this something that will mellow with further cellar age? I hope so, certainly has the fruit to last a good while yet. Revisit in 5 years with fingers crossed. **(??)
