December 12, 2018 - Nice and drinking younger than the age would suggest it should. Again more dried fruits and potpourri style wine. It does seem 'easy' - something that doesn't require a lot of contemplation, but is enjoyable and interesting.

March 8, 2018 - Casual dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): Lots of debate as to whether this was corked. I never got TCA, but it was certainly funky, old and weird. A whole bunch of dried fruit, discarded tea bags and an odd epoxy note.

March 8, 2018 - Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): "Old and weird, and a little bit corked." Actually a lot corked. But no one else seemed to think so (they and their yak palates all just said it smelled like old wine).

May 5, 2016 - Mature mushroom and early tones. More elegant styling, with a good weight and linearity to the palate. Resolved. Certainly held and smoothed out during the couple of hours it was open, but no reason to hold this.

May 4, 2016 - Rayas and friends (Chicago, IL): My understanding is that this vintage is a bit of a rare bird (though I do see a few listings for it as I write this tasting note). The nose on this was quite funky at first, as you'd expect from a wine that's been cooped up in a bottle for that long. But then, as that mushroom funk blew off, this started to reveal a really lovely bottle of Rioja, with lots of dark fruit, mushrooms, barnyard, and sweat. Quite wild, really. I revisited this bottle much later in the evening and in fact, the American oak dill started really shining through. It's always a treat to have a bottle of old Rioja in great shape.
