Community Tasting Notes 13

August 24, 2022 - Deep cherry core some garnet towards the edge. On the nose there's herbs, hints of balsamic and coffee. A very inviting nose. Very secondary notes on the palate, mature, resolved tannins and no obvious oak. It's only 13.5% and all the better for it. The 10% Cabernet seems to give this an added dimension. Very good winemaking and a lovely wine.
Current vintages are 14.5%-15% and no Cabernet.

December 4, 2020 - Full body, lots of blackberry and cassis, smooth tannins, dry and long finish.

January 4, 2015 - Still big and full-bodied, but well integrated. A great Ribera del Duero that's modern, but still has terroir that makes it clearly Spanish.

December 17, 2014 - It is always so pleasent to open a bottle to find out that you did that at the right moment. This was the case with my only 2004 Pago de Los Capellenes Ribera del Duero Reserva. Color is dark garnet with some ruby hues. Initially shy, needs some air to unwind its aromatic bouquet of mostly dark cherries, liquorice, mint, blueberry, truffles, sweet spices and floral scents. On the palate it is medium-bodied with a silky texture, perfectly balanced and quite complex. Aftertaste is long. Excellent wine inded. Will drink nicely over the next 5 years or so, but no reason to wait further if you wish to enjoy it now.

November 7, 2012 - Made in a more modern style which is usually not to my tastes, but the ripe fruit was clean and fresh and balanced with nice acidity. Will hold my remaining bottle for 2-5 more years as there was plenty of structure to age.
