June 21, 2010 - Nose is good, but out of balance, tannins are heavy, fruits are masked by tannins. Decanting did not help this one

July 21, 2009 - Very nice, round, well made, a medium-bodied, cool weather PS. Very enjoyable. 87+

July 25, 2008 - Consistent with iByron's notes. An enjoyable wine, an interesting take on cooler-weather PS, but nothing special. Points for the black pepper, loses points for a thin mouthfeel, and weak (for PS) color. Probably could have used some more thinning.

June 14, 2008 - Color (5/5): Glass-coating deep purple with color through to the translucent edge. Nose (12/15): Once alcohol moves out (about two minutes) there's a full dark "plum-berry" cobbler aroma that's true to the varietal. Palate (14/20): The entry has immediate firm tannins with the typical black and blue berries following. Chewy, filling mouthfeel with the tannins firm and present but not overwhelming of the fruit and light oak. Finish is of moderate or even short length, but you really want to get that next mouthful in your mouth so it's not disappointing. Potential (5/10): Firm but forgiving tannic structure suggests a moderate-term potential development, but the last bit in the decanter began to show that typical Mid-Atlantic sag that some normally firm grapes can get (admittedly this was after several hours in a warm atmosphere). The wine is pretty well-balanced now and should reward at least through 2013. Drink this while you're aging your high-end Napa/Sonoma/Central Coast Petite Sirahs. Good solid effort.
