October 15, 2022 - Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2022 Edition; 10/14/2022-10/16/2022 (Piedmont, Italy): From a beautiful magnum straight from the immaculate wine cellar of La Ciau del Tornavento.
Served blind and the nose divided the crowd between being Burgundian or being a touch off putting. We loved and indeed had we not known all wines we’re Barolo we would have thought it was a Burgundy . The nose however is the highlight of the wine and the palate doesn’t not follow at the same level. Still very solid and a worthy 94 even judged in a lineup of magnificent wines. Drink sooner than later.

August 7, 2019 - Opened, not decanted, for four hours.
Bilberry, cherry, raspberry, truffle, chocolate. Form tannins and good acidity. Two bottles, one was more truffle and the other more bilberry.

November 21, 2015 - Last bottle of 12, and it's lost the lovely mellow blackberry fruit of a few years ago. Now the emphasis is herbal, dusty, a tad balsamic. It's still a lovely bottle, but without the voluptuousness it showed back then (actually, only a couple of years ago, now I think of it). Farewell old friend!

October 25, 2015 - Well past it's prime for this medium vintage, and with an uncertain provenance, we were expecting the worst. However, we were pleasantly surprised and liked the wine. Beautiful color that did not reveal its age, it had a lot of dustiness that was too much for one of our group but which the rest of us found charming. Evolved beautifully over two hours. Layers of dark fruit aromas with hints of orange and spice; floral notes and a deep earthiness. Good levels of acid and tannin that were in balance. Medium length. A harmonious wine underneath that dominant dustiness.

November 8, 2006 - BAWE/VinoCellar Offline - Piemonte Wines (The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards, Livermore, CA): Medium-dark ruby colour. Aromas of black plums, black cherry, licorice, and flowers. Medium-bodied, fresh, with licorice, black plums, orange rind, and cherry. Nice finish, 30-35s, with black fruit.
