December 13, 2023 - Probably has no more heights to reach, but still a wonderful Barbera at a very high level of flavors. It's not quite as intense as the last couple of bottles we opened, but I'm not complaining at all!

December 10, 2022 - Beautiful complex earthy nose of leather, raw meat, sun dried tomato, slight incense. Elegant middle weight mouth. Good sour cherry acidic lift and a touch of pleasant orange bitters on the very long and still nicely firm finish. Outstanding!

June 25, 2022 - Sad to say this is my last bottle. What a great wine. All my notes from 2021 apply -- just a flat out incredible bottle of Barbera juice.

July 19, 2021 - Even more impressive than last time in 2018 and 2017. Just a fabulous barbera. Huge nose redolent of tar and dark dark cherries, and cedar. One could just sniff it for a while, which is almost as good as tasting it. The strange thing is that it has a nose that is suggestive of great baroli, except for the dark berries. If blind tasted I would have said this is a blend of nebbiolo and barbera, but it is pure barbera. The palate has a forward sharpness of acidic fruit, which is simultaneously rather mellow and integrated, resulting in a delightfully rich taste. The taste profile is chewy, fruity, tarry, leathery, smoky. The moderate tannins in previous bottles has pretty much gone away, though there is a hint of them. So, this may not have a lot of years left, but it is certainly at some pinnacle, since I rate this significantly higher than the earlier bottles even though those past bottles were already pretty wonderful.

March 11, 2018 - Tasting nicely but for a 1999 this still has life on it yet! Tart cherry, plum, star anise and white pepper.

February 23, 2018 - Just a great barbera. See my notes from 2017, since this one is pretty much its twin.

August 30, 2017 - Even a bit more delicious than my 2013 tasting. Nose is still big of dark cherries and cedar. The palate is chewy, tarry, smoky, but what cuts through it all is a good hit of acidity. Light tannins at end carry on for a while. Wonderful barbera. Still lively and younghish.

October 23, 2013 - Huge nose redolent of tar and dark dark cherries, and cedar. Don't even need to put it to one's lips, because the nose is so delightful and dark, as some wines are of the Langhe. The palate has a forward sharpness of acidic fruit that really cuts the big nose. The taste is chewy, fruity, tarry, leathery, smoky and has a nice moderate hit of tannins at the end. This shows no sign of age -- bright, young, yet a certain maturity that must have come from its 14 years of life. The Trinchero really know how to handle barbera.

August 19, 2013 - 14% abv. Still deep ruby, despite its age. Nose appears older, dried fruit, quite high-toned, coffee, sweet spice, meaty, fragrant and beautiful. Fine dusty tannins, high acidity, bit tart on finish, sour cherry. Very good. Very fresh still with fine texture and a beautiful nose. Acidity a bit volatile, especially on the palate.

September 16, 2012 - Color: Deep reddish purple
Nose: Musty, subdued raspberry, bramble & leather
    Mouth: Raspberry & tart cherry
Overall: Robust tannins but balanced with crisp acidity; still a "youngster"
