August 18, 2010 - goes back to 1452. not a co-op. rather the vineyards are owned by the city of krems and proceeds go to the local hospital. I guess this estate is most like the Packers. Fritz Meisbauer winemaker, came from Domaine Wachau
Krems is a compressed region. low diurnal swings. 1/2 stony terraced wachau-type soil. 1/2 sandy warm soils.
Krems - green fruit, Kamptal - yellow fruit. upper danube is cool climate.

August 13, 2010 - Kind of muted on the nose. A bit of red apple peel.
Has a fat mouthfeel that is a bit waxy. The fruit is a touch bitter. I think this is too warm to evaluate properly.

August 13, 2010 - Fleshy, richer, more rich than I expected it to be, or remember it being. But not in a bad way at all. Rather delicious and easy going, perfect at $16 -- desirable.

August 11, 2010 - next to 09 hiedler loess and 09 nigl freiheit. in the set the nose shows some age. a volcanic grape aromas lift. much more stony in the nose now. arugula. rather ashen in the nose. an aged grapey sheen. doesn't quite display the green spice/prickle of the other two. white pepper express towards the finish, but the fresher gruners in the bunch are winning out tonight.

May 31, 2010 - Couldn't miss this one blind. The acidity surrounds a core of nice citrus and a little pepper. Perfect with slightly spicy food.

May 12, 2010 - The nose was a tight at first but some swirling produced aromas of tropical fruit as well hints of stone fruit. Although hard to identify, the fruit was clean and pure. This wine really delivered on the palate. There were layers of flavor characterized by an impressive focus for a wine at this price. The attack was full on nectarines and it gave way to a textbook mid-palate of sweet pineapple. The fruit receded and a characteristic white pepper finish took hold, lingering for almost a minute. A strand of minerality ran throughout, although not as much as some other Austrian Gruners. There was plenty of acidity for me, although perhaps not enough for someone who seeks out white wines with especially high acid. I'm usually partial toward second tier nuances, but I don't mind the fruit stealing the show when it’s this good and focused without being cloying. This is a fine bottle notable for its focus, length and value. The critics missed this one.

October 19, 2009 - Spice and structure, with backbone and ripe veltliner fruit. Amazing what this co-operative is doing. Owned by the city of Krems and all 30 hacres are within the city limits. Crazy. Bill notes sweet doughy character that I couple up with bitter greens. Lovely.

October 5, 2009 - Lemon peel, nice floral element (think old school roses and something stinky mixed in), great acidity and a very attractive spice element. Really quite nice. 89pts.
