March 1, 2024 - Gereiftes Rubin.

    March 11, 2023 - Excellent CdP.
Decanted and aired for 2+ hours. Kept the nose and the taste for the entire consumption over 1 1/2 hours. Powerful nose, taste lasted for over 90 seconds.
All the Cdp traits are there, simply a wonderful wine.

February 1, 2023 - Decanted from magnum and kept decanter standing on ice to serve a bit cooler than I usually would for a red. Big wine for sure but I did not get any heat or overripeness. At the same time while the nose was fairy aromatic with plenty of dark fruit, smoked and earthy notes, the palate was very smooth with plenty of licquorice but in my eyes not particularly aromatic or deep. Perhaps the trade off when serving a bit cooler. Any way, a very well made C9dP in the vintage context but not a truly great wine in my eyes.

December 29, 2021 - Very dense, balanced and silky wine , madeira port wine, dried plums, smoky bacon, dried sweet red fruits - long finish - with 15% too heavy for my liking - lacks therefore a bit elegance - however a special wine which improved over the 2nd in the btl! Next one in 5 yrs+

August 6, 2020 - CDP redemption night at Maison Dakota. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour with wide garnet rim. Long legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of meat, smoke, dark spice, garrigue, earth, dark red cherries, black cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (16%!), velvety smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of herbal menthol, dark red cherries, black cherries, black licorice, sweet kirsch and caramel, smoke. Long finish.
Very good quality. Big and powerful but with sufficient supporting acidity to give it enough lift. Will continue to develop well over the next 3-4 years. No need for extended ageing beyond.

June 26, 2020 - decanted one hour+. it is an interesting paradox to find a wine such as this, well-constructed & fully representative of the best technique & winemaking, throughout the process. but I no longer love wines like this, as special as it is in terms of capturing the vintage & reflecting the house's approach to winemaking. the alcohol shows, it's not brutal but notably present; the grenache fruit is very sweet, strawberry, cherry, clean yet almost candied; tannins fully resolved, lots of depth, tho soft & low acid on the finish. many folks will love this, no longer in that group. so why 92? arbitrary scoring to reflect the well-made process; just not my style so much these days. it was good w/dinner.

grilled bone-in pork chop, rose gold potatoes, crispy & garlicky; grilled zucchini w/sungold tomatoes, chanterelles & flageolets

November 10, 2019 - Singing! Medium rusty red; expressive nose, plum in madeira, caramel and strawberry; elegant, sweet, well-balanced, rounded body; has it all going for it, better CdP might be hard to find (?); 2007 was a great year in CdP - they are all drinking really well right now

March 7, 2019 - No denying the quality of this wine. It has concentration without weight. Loads of strawberry jam. 2007 was the ideal CDP vintage and this wine benefited from that. I have never had a bad wine from chapoutier. This wine is a little jammy for my taste and this was enchanbced by not being aged in oak. Still a great wine at a great value.
