    January 17, 2016 - 89+
    Dunkles Rot

January 15, 2016 - A beast of a wine given the appellation. And yet very true to the variety and region. Blueberry, tobacco, umami, mint and cola qualities aromatically. Chunky, black and blue fruit flavors on the attack, but more earthy, and mineral driven on the finish with a huge tobacco imprint. Has the purity of a wine with minimal/zero oak imprint, but also some of the rustic blockiness to the mid palate and tannins. Almost Rhone-like in intensity, acidity and fruit ripeness, yet very much a Cab Franc.

I would not be surprised if this ages for another decade as its in no way nearing tired or dried out. On the other hand, this is likely to always be a wine with rough edges rather than an ethereal, elegant one.

January 25, 2010 - Agree with prior tasting notes by Merzbow and JTabor-- silky cocoa, iron/spinach etc. Fantastic wine for the price-- and a savory wine at any price.

August 31, 2008 - 3rd day. Color: Dark. Nose: Surprising sweet purple fruit on top of some brussel sprouts/green vegetable aromas. Flavor: Good mouth presence, pretty well balanced rich fruit and soily/dirty green vegetables. Though I like the fruit/vegetable balance tipped more toward the veg. end, this wine is still nice. Good reflux of iron/meat/spinach.
