May 3, 2023 - S$100-$150 open theme: So dark in colour with high alcohol and extracted fruit. My first instinct was a 2005 right-bank but once it was revealed to be a non-Bordeaux, it was obvious that this was a Oz Shiraz from the same period. Couldn’t have been a new-world Cab with the lack of greenness, and plummy notes - the slate of new-worlds tasted last Saturday helped me out here. Not my style but drinkable.

September 5, 2022 - Even though I assumed it would be DOA, I took it to a Labor Day party hosted by a guy who loves Aussie Shiraz. As usual, I was wrong. It was more vibrant and alive than a bottle I opened a year ago. Prominent American oak, but plenty of blueberries and interesting secondary notes and flavors. Quite rich, with a terrific finish. Still great and still has some life left in it.

September 3, 2022 - Wine making that goes into a command.
120+ yr (Planted in 1894) old vines on its own root stock,.
This is a great example of the old Barossa vine fruit smashed with oak
    and holding its own.
(on the last glass with airing)
Dark fruit, coffee, surprising red fruit,
    liquorice, blackberry on the palate,
    long dark berry finish,
outstanding command but needs 3+ yrs to be fully appreciated

February 10, 2022 - I know Penfold’s and other iconic wineries in Australia are considered possibly better. And there are many good ones. But Elderton still is my go to. 16 years and drinking beautifully

November 14, 2021 - Definitely past its best, partially oxidised. Leather alongside damson, blackberry and mulberry. This would have been an extracted fruit forward wine but almost certainly lacking the acidity and possibly the tannin to carry the fruit long term. Long and quite complex. Drink up.
