September 9, 2019 - WCC Stag Wine Night Blind Tasting @ Jade Palace [Solaia 2008, Opus One 2007, Unico 2006, Dominus 1997, Latour 1996]: 4th bottle for the night - Nose of dark fruits, cassis, tobacco, herbs, with a slight old textbook / library funk. Bouquet seems older than it should be; definitely a controversial nose tonight as some didn’t quite enjoy it. But this bottle worked magic on the palate - wow. Dark fruits, tobacco, herbs, lead pencil, anise, spices. Long, long menthol and tobacco leaf finish. What was stunning was its vibrancy - soft, resolved tannins which just brings out and radiates the complexity. Structured and refined. Simply ethereal. This has to be my wine of the night and probably my wine of 2019 (so far).

August 25, 2019 - At peak now, smooth and balanaced, like a mature Pauillac with its Tobacco, pencil shavings notes.

June 23, 2019 - Simply everything I look for in a bottle of wine. This was the last of a 6 bottle lot, and was by far the best. Nose, taste, finish, mouth feel, balance, smooth and just amazing. Ethereal.

April 29, 2019 - My last bottle, a 750ml. Decanted an hour in advance. This was open, easy to drink, showing dark blue fruit and a nice oak framing on the finish. Balanced, but new world shows through. Seems best to be drinking now, but really well made wine that does Cali Cab proud. A-

April 18, 2019 - Pre-Easter Long Lunch - Older Napa Cabs (Amuse Bouche, 22/F Hennessey Centre, Wan Chai, Hong kong): Decanted for a couple of hours before serving, which seemed about right, then drank over the following 3 hours. Semi-transparent purple-tinged jewelled ruby. Nose is BLAM! .... very cassis-driven, liquorice root, dried star anise. Then deep and rich black and red fruit on the palate with gorgeous elegance and poise. Long and reverberant very long indeed. Fabulous and close to to silence creating....which it has been on a previous occasion. This needs a good few hours to enjoy slowly as if gradually unfurls. It sitll has decades ahead of it to enjoy and perhaps improve. It has more refinement than the still-beautiful Dominus 1987 we drank alongside it and will be an even better wine in 10 years' time.
