February 21, 2022 - Still a delight, smoothly cruising a long plateau of drinkability, the 1987 Mondavi Reserve remains an alluring, full bodied, complex red. The palate exhibits a brooding quality with significant depth to the sweet black fruits, earth, tobacco and leather. The finish is long and smooth with a few spicy nuances. Although the 1991 Reserve presents a bit more clarity and complexity, the 1987 is a star in its own right.

January 30, 2022 - What a fine old Cabernet from the days when Mondavi made great wines. Surprisingly slight bricking at the edge of an otherwise garnet glass of wine. Unctuous almost syrupy texture. The tannins are completely melded. The flavors are deep, pure and honest, strawberries, plums, spices, a hint of cigar box cedar, all grounded in an earthy strata structured with a delicious sweet edge and fresh acidity. Wonderful! This has years ahead of it.

January 28, 2022 - Bought at HK auction, allowed it a week to rest before opening. Label fell off but cork was in superb condition. PNP. Still dark ruby colour, not much sign of age on the rim. Nose was immediately expressive of dark fruits, straw and peppery notes. Medium body on the palate with very deep and solid core of black fruits, chocolates, cedar and again that slight pepperiness in the finish. Very long, very enjoyable. Compared to Dominus (my favourite Napa) this wine is more hedonistic, more flamboyant, less precision and less complexity but just as enjoyable

December 16, 2021 - Juicy with earthy raspberry; nice finish.

December 16, 2021 - Beautifully fragrant nose of licorice and stewed blackberries. Lighter body but plenty of flavor intensity. Superfine tannins give it just enough backbone. Fully mature but the fruit is still there and it remains fresh and vibrant.
