December 31, 2021 - Tasted after a 3-hour decant, this wine was outstanding. We had it for our 33rd wedding anniversary, to accompany our braised rabbit & vegetables over garlic mashed potatoes.

Although the wine is 15 years old, it still tasted young and primary, and was a muscular youth, with assertive tannins and acidity. A blend of equal parts Merlot and Sangiovese, the nose of chocolate-covered cherries comes, I think, principally from the Merlot (later on, leather appears). The palate, on the other hand, was dominated by the Sangiovese: black cherries, tobacco, tart Calamondin orange, black currant, black raspberries, and leather. The wine continued to open and become more complex as we drank it over the course of an hour.

We got this for $53 from WTSO, and if I'd known how good it would turn out to be, I'd have bought every bottle available. If I had another, I'd wait 10 years to open it; this wine has decades of graceful life ahead of it. I'd be interested in trying other vintages.

This producer (Fonterutoli) has turned into one of our favorites. I plan to latch on to just about everything I can find from that winery, from now on.

July 9, 2021 - Fantastic wine. Dark in colour. Full-bodied. Well balanced. Dark berry fruit in flavour. Good finish.

March 13, 2021 - Said to be at the end of its drinking window but it was not obvious, Still lots of fruit and very smooth and very enjoyable wine.

March 7, 2021 - It’s all there, fruit (delicious cherries), spice and lovely mature tannins. A real joy. Four hours decancting brought out the goodness. Maybe even rounder the next day.

    November 3, 2020 - A lovely smooth fruity wine.
