October 15, 2022 - Tasted next to 1978 Pora, Montestefano, and Montefico. The nose is more giving than the Pora, although a bit more musty. Flavors of cherry, truffles, underwood, and floral notes follow. Well balanced palate with tart fruit, good acidity, and notes of cherry, strawberries, tar, and caramel. Nice finish. Lovely wine, more interesting and complex than the Pora, but a bit behind the other two Crus.

February 16, 2018 - 1978 Piemonte Dinner Showcasing Produttori Crus (Flour + Water, San Francisco): Piercing menthol aromas accompanied by some mustiness and VA. Weightier than the Asili, mushrooms, faded fruit, bitter finish. Certainly not a pristine bottle.

August 1, 2017 - There's some leather, mocha and earthy development on the nose. The palate is fresh and at the wine's core is intense liqueur cherry fruit. With air you get some Indian spice and floral notes and it is an engaging, ethereal bottle that satisfies the whole way through.

February 4, 2017 - I suspected this bottle was past it's prime from it's light color and it's initial oxidized smell. After a double decant, the wine seamed to become darker in color. Not much fruit left, but a nice earthy mature nebbiolo.

October 7, 2016 - NK 1978/1982 Barolo & Barbaresco Dinner (Dovetail Restaurant, NYC): [Double-decanted around 9am.] Black cherry nose. Very appealing up front with nice black cherry fruit, but a bit dirty on the finish.

October 7, 2016 - Cherry and roses, but with a mustiness that I thought was TCA at first but I now think less likely as at the end of the night it was less bad. Youthfully still powerful, and while enjoyable, this was an off bottle compared to my previous experiences with this wine. NR

February 13, 2016 - Double decanted in the AM. A little soy and brown flavors on opening. 14 hours later:

Youthful and powerful, with greta lift. Excellent balance. This is on the mid peak curve, with excellent tension and mix of savory and fruit and earth. Masculine Barbaresco, and plays very well with its meal. Lovely. 93

December 4, 2014 - Mostly Baroli gathering at Aggio (Aggio restaurant, Baltimore): Medium nose, ripe black fruits, chocolate, cola, anise and iron. Good concentration, sweet dark fruit driven palate impression, warm and round, hollow middle palate and medium to short finish. This bottle seems slightly past its prime. The overall expression is a bit monolithic.
