August 1, 2014 - When you think "non-dosé", you tend to think lean and racy, but this is one of the most powerful sparkling wines I've tried. The chenin is still there, but also plenty of bread, and the acid, if anything, is a bit reticent despite the lack of dosage. I've not had the regular Brut, but I really enjoyed Pinon's work here. Outstanding value. Very Good+.

Nose: Very tight. At first, faint orchard fruit aromas of apple and pear, but as it warms and takes in some air, some yeasty-leesy notes come out, along with a mineral zing.
Mouthfeel: Not strong texturally---coarse bead coupled with relatively low pressure gives it an awkward mouthfeel.
Palate: Very steely, which is not necessarily a problem on its own, but there isn't anything to balance it out. The fruit never really appears on the palate, and neither does the autolytic character, so you're just left with acid and some mineral, and even a touch of alcohol, which is amazing considering it's just 12.5%.
This was just not a good bottle of sparkling wine, which was both surprising and really disappointing considering how much I loved the bottle of the regular Pinon Brut that I had a little over a year ago---one of the best value bubblies I've ever had. And I have no issues with the non-dose style; this one just didn't pull it off. -

January 7, 2014 - Slightly toasty, with a crisp, apply flavor profile. Vivid acidity but a sense of richness to the mouthfeel. Really lovely and a great value.
