Community Tasting Notes 11

April 22, 2014 - Grade: VG+. Last bottle, Probably at the end of its drinking window, this has developed some interesting character compared to 3 years ago. Beautiful, dark cherry color. Still has a huge fruit nose but more dark fruit and leather and oak notes with some cough syrup. Big soft, plush and mouth-filling dark fruit on the palate with some sour cherries and lead pencil, more structure and acidity than before, very soft and silky tannins. Finish is port-like with currants and old oak and a little sweet. A wine worthy of contemplation, wish I had more.

    My Grades: EXX-Exceptional, EX-Excellent, VG-Very Good, G-Good, O-Ordinary, P-Poor, U-Ungraded

March 5, 2014 - D+0h: not much deposit in the bottle D+1h: purple red, smells of blackberry, raspberry and eucalyptus, smooth in the mouth, a rather light body, raspberry and blackberry in the mouth, raspberry in the aftertaste, good length (20 sec.), a good Douro red, but not for the price (20 Euros)

October 12, 2012 - Not decanted, consumed over 1 hour. I didn't enjoy this as much as the bottles I had last year; the oak seemed a little more prominent than I remember, turning leathery and pushing aside the dark cherry/berry fruit. There's a little structure, but I'd agree that impressions are on the weighty/tannic side, and that more acid and/or fruit would be welcome for balance.

Still not bad, especially for the price, but I wasn't brokenhearted that half of the bottle had gone into the coq au vin.

September 28, 2012 - Soft and dry with cherry jam, a whiff of oak spice, and a milk-chocolatey finish.

May 11, 2012 - Complex, rich, and well made. Has a nose of buttered popcorn, which although I find interesting, I don't find all that appealing. If you like rich, soft reds, this will definitely please you.
