January 31, 2019 - 2006 Retrospective (Central Coast, CA): Slow-ox’ed for six hours. The last, and least interesting, of my stash. Monolithic, dense and unyielding, with no typicity. A decant would have helped, but would not have transformed it I’m sure. Smoke, mocha, some candied fruit, but all subordinated to a density that made this a difficult wine to enjoy.

January 27, 2019 - WX+ 'X9 Blind Cabernet Sauvignon Meetup (My House - Hanover Park, IL): This was a real winner tonight. The second off theme bottle this was full throttle out of the gate. Decanted about six hours and this was undoubtedly SQN not the nose.
Super heady dark berry aromas coupled with camphor, exotic baking spices, freshly picked violets and bloody meat.
The palate was awesome with more dark fruit, smoke and forest floor. The finish went on and on. This showed some subtle signs of age but there is still lots of life left here.
Definitely prefer SQN with some years under their belt. Has more nuance and the finish is more balanced than young SQN.

December 24, 2018 - PnP at Christmas eve dinner at N.’s house. Great SQN flowery nose. Good fruit in the red spectrum. Tasty accompaniment to turkey and potatoes.

October 6, 2018 - Decanted for one hour. Violets, raspberry liquor, espresso and garrigue aromas. Red and black berries, mocha, spice, underbrush and fine tannins on the palate. Long, layered finish with good depth. Full bodied. Served with grilled Delmonico steaks.

August 24, 2018 - Performed admirably in the August afternoon heat, with loads of sweet red fruit, coffee, spice and licorice. Very long finish.

(Sine Qua Non Grenache Raven Series) Dark red violet color; roasted black fruit, hickory smoke nose; intense, roasted black fruit, tar, smoke, incipient bacon fat, light pepper palate; medium-plus finish 93+ points (92% Grenache, 8% Syrah; 16.3% alcohol; tastes more like a big Syrah at this stage than a Grenache)
