December 20, 2020 - Past its prime but still good legs and fruit. Still enjoyable

May 10, 2020 - Remarkably young looking, dark in appearance. Soft old fruit, sous bois on the nose. Tight at first but really opens up with time. Would have benefited from decanting. Medium body, perfumed cherry, cranberry, anise, and rich earth. Very pretty spice on the palate. Initially choppy this really smoothed out with a few hours open. Seemless and youthful at the end.

November 8, 2018 - 2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Beautiful clear and bright ruby color indicating ideally cellared. Fully mature nose displaying subtle red fruit, strawberry candy, cherry candy, garrigue, a hint of mint, sous bois and earth. Fully integrated palate, nicely layered subtle red fruit, clean, fluid, polished, perfect amount of acidity, strong mineral and a medium to long subtle clean red fruit driven finish with a hint of leather and garrigue at the end. Really well stored example that is drinking beautifully but no need to wait.

August 27, 2018 - Completely different than the last, flawed bottle. Old, rounded CdP, fruit there but fading, balanced with the acidic backbone. Wonderful bottle.

May 24, 2018 - Drank in my wife's birthday dinner. Bottle was in excellent condition. Fill level was about 2cm bellow the foil and the color looked still young.
Decanted just to filter out sediments and drank over 2 1/2 hours. Nose was typical of aged Beaucastel but relatively lively for a 40 year old CDP. Tanin was very soft and resolved. Still has life with great balanced acidity and very enjoyable. It started fading at around 2 hour mark. If you have a bottle, it is still a good time to drink up, but I won't hold it for too long. If you can settle sediments well, you don't need to decant it. I'd rather enjoy it longer in a glass. In excellent condition, it may last up to a couple more years.
