April 26, 2017 - Amber colour, mature and complex bouquet of raisins, figes, mushrooms and sweet spices. Wonderful wine.

January 6, 2017 - more brown than seems normal. Some type of oxidation happening. Decanting helped. But overall a strange, extremely forward acidity knocked down the enjoyment score. probably one of the most full bodied, massively textured white wines I've ever had. Weighing in at 15.5% alcohol this thing is a bruiser and was a little much for the food. A fun and interesting experience, I think this bottling is a pass for some.

March 15, 2015 - Deep (and a little murky) amber in color. Nose of honey and autumnal spices. Much dryer than expected from the oxidized color. Tastes of dried peaches, autumnal spices, cloves, and hint of earth. Lots of acidity. Fruit has crossed over to secondary flavors. Interesting, but not for everyone. Past prime.

January 11, 2015 - This wine rocks!!
Color is admittedly a shock, amber like an aged fortified wine.
Nose is a dynamite with aromas of raisins, beeswax (botrytis?), honey, smoke and sweet spice. Makes you expect a sweet wine, but on the palate the wine is essentialy dry (indice1). Medium to full bodied with similar flavors as on the nose together with a salty tang and some mineral and medicinal notes (iodine). Finish is remarkably long and has a nice refreshing citrus note.
I left a glass for the next day to see how it would be and the wine had lost some edges and spoke more of its Alsatian origins. Still great but I preferred it with its initiall wildness.
A unique and rare wine by a genius winemaker!

swfc Does not like this wine:
December 29, 2014 - Amber-brown colour of an amontillado sherry. This certainly looks oxidized but may not be (Olivier Z-H insists not). It certainly did not deteriorate, and if anything improved over a couple of days. It is not flat, and retains the smoke and peat so typical of Rangen. Quince, exotic fruits, wool, peat and alcohol on the nose. The sweetness at the front of the palate turns dry by the finish, with plenty of extract, tannin and somewhat sour fruit. Bizarre, and ultimately doesn't come together.
Even if this is not technically flawed, it is certainly difficult to rank this a success.
