September 22, 2022 - La Rosa 10 year vertical on Zoom with Fabio Bosio. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance deep intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Some sediments. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of nutty chocolate, earth, black cherry and dark plum, dark perfume, balsamic, hint of mushroom. Developed.
On the palate, dry, soft medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of nutty dark chocolate, black cherry, dark plum, spice, balsamic, earth enveloping. Long earthy finish with hint of mushroom. Smooth tannin gets gritty towards the end.
Very good quality. Time to drink and enjoy. Don't wait too long on the tannin as it will probably outlast the fruit.

May 19, 2019 - The wine is clear medium garnet in the glass.

The nose is clean of medium intensity showing aromas of ripe red fruit (cranberry, cherry), some floral elements (violets, roses), fruit development (dried cranberry, fig) and bottle age (forest floor, wet leaves). The wine is developing.

The wine is dry with medium (+) acidity, high fine-grained tannins, high alcohol, medium (+) flavor intensity, medium (+) body, medium finish. Flavors of floral (roses, violets), red fruit (cranberry, cherry, raspberry), fruit development (dried strawberry, dried cranberry, fig) and bottle age (forest floor, wet leaves).

The wine is very good. It's showing balanced development, depth and nice complexity of flavors across the board. The acidity is still keeping this very much alive and together with the intensity, integrated alcohol and tannins will keep this Barolo going for at least a decade more. Could use a bit more length to contribute to that development though.

(LA ROSA Fontanafredda Barolo) Barolo Dear Friends, This offer speaks for itself. If you are looking for value at the top end, both examples below provide an opportunity to enjoy aged Nebbiolo at less than their original release price (not to mention far less than their current release price, which I believe is closer to $90 for the 2006). Each vintage has its appeal and it's an interesting study to watch them evolve over an entire evening. Both are ready to drink now and over the next several years. A deal in aged Barolo? That's typically an oxymoron but I believe tonight's offer qualifies. Due to limited quantities, I'll leave it at that: 1998 Fontanafredda Barolo "La Rosa" 2000 Fontanafredda Barolo "La Rosa" This parcel has impeccable provenance. Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy7553 Italy7554
