October 5, 2018 - It's a baby. Rose, tar and high acid palate.

January 25, 2018 - Expressive and complex with all typical nose of a truly great Barolo. Softened and elegant tannins, big structure, great balance and depth. Lingering finish. A legend not because stories behind but the quality.

January 14, 2018 - Three years since my last bottle, when I suggested checking back in 2018. The nose is powerful, with large-scale aromas of sappy balsam, rose, and dark fruit. Still dense, still chewy, but with more elegance and softness to the tannins. Rather classy. Although quite lovely and accessible today, the 2002 Monfortino is still rather primary. Hopefully its best days are ahead.

October 26, 2017 - Bottle breathe for one hour and decanted for one hour to serve. Nose has red berries, licorice, herbs and spice. Palate is elegant yet it lacks power probably due to the vintage. An early drinking monfortino. Overpriced for what it is. 91-92

October 25, 2017 - Hints of chocolate, rich and opulent. Approachable tonight with a few hours decant. Soy sauce. Silky tannins and lots of elegance here. Nuanced with great complexity. Great now but tons of upside.
