April 19, 2024 - Wow this was so fresh on the nose that it belies its age. In perfect condition and very grateful to be able to sample this legend, given bottle variation.

February 25, 2024 - I have been on an older Latour kick lately so it was fun to revisit this famous vintage. Top shoulder fill from a great looking bottle. Cork soaked through. Dark color, little bricking and a surprisingly small amount of sediment. Drank over four hours. Not much changed during that time. Mature flavors but super youthful. Dark fruit, some smoke, banana oil and tobacco. Deep and super well balanced. Slightly dusty finish. For the money, I prefer the 1955 I had last night. It did not have the depth but it was more open and sweeter than this bottle. But, of course, with wines this old it is a bottle by bottle experience.

January 28, 2024 - Stunning! Great color & fill; minimal sediment. Rich, balanced & lingering. Had alongside a '70 Latour. The '70 was perhaps a little more complex, but didn't quite match the elegance and depth of the '59.

December 1, 2023 - 50th Birthday Bash: 10 Vintage Vertical of Latour: The only corked wine in the bunch. Thankfully, I've had this vintage of Latour before and when it is on, it is ON. Just not tonight.

September 23, 2023 - Jason's birthday and old Bordeaux (Newcastle, WA): Savory, black currant, meaty, cigar box. Stern and tannic, crazy dark, somehow still not ready. Just textbook cedar, textbook Latour. It was REMARKABLE, as perfect as Latour gets. Unreal.

It went very well with the New York strip loin. Roasted lamb would be great too.
