Community Tasting Notes 20

April 30, 2018 - Yalumba makes wines both modestly priced and delicious. But the color of this 11 year old Grenache shows significantly more bricking and browning than it had 3 years earlier, which now extends into the nose with a hint of oxidation. That said, the fruit flavor is predominately a tasty red raspberry and the acidity is refreshing. While heading downhill, best drunk sooner, and getting lighter in body, the wine remains enjoyable enough to be good both by itself and with food.

April 22, 2015 - This wine is a good Grenache for lovers of Pinot Noir. The color is ruby with a medium body, but the flavors are delicious and the wine is enjoyable by itself and delightful with food. At the $8.50 I paid, a fine value. The flavors actually echo some of the best rose wines from Provence in France - primarily raspberry with the some secondary cherry and strawberry. Despite being served along with bigger, darker, and more powerful wines, I still not only enjoyed this wine, but kept coming back to it.

  • Jason Rzutkiewicz Does not like this wine:

January 22, 2012 - (14.5%) This starts with big, lush, juicy dark fruit with bramble spices before showing some earthy, mineral driven acidity on the mid-palate. From there it's downhill as the finish is a bit of a hot mess. Needless to say, while I admit I'm taking the glass half empty approach, I think you can do a whole lot better for $20. Then again it probably depends on whether our palates are similar...

November 23, 2011 - Bright ruby red. Clear all the way through. Medium bodied and fruit forward. Raspberry kirsch and some darker berries on the back of the palate. Not terribly structured or complex, but very pure and delicious. Long finish.

September 5, 2011 - APPEARANCE: Clean, light red. A little darker than pinot noir.
AROMA: Chipolte peppers, earthy, cherry tootsie roll pops.
TASTE: Very smooth. No tannins at all. Ready to drink now. Enjoyable, but not very complex.
