Community Tasting Notes 5

May 26, 2019 - Perfect condition bottle. Dried plum, raisin, asphalt, leather. Lots of monk fruit (!). In the mouth started with sharp acidity and then came the red dates. Sweet fruit coated the whole mid-palate, provided nice balance to the acidity. Needed 2 hours of aeration to reach its peak and very enjoyable. This bottle performed better than the one two years ago.

    May 21, 2017 - dark cloudy opaque red-brown
oxidised nose of mature red fruits
unfortunately well over its time - but still drinkable when not in the shade of a great wine...

April 13, 2017 - Opened with raisin, prune and acidic undertone. This wine at over 40 years of age needed air to flesh out. Fruit picked up and rounded out the mid-palate after half an hour and stayed there for close to 45mins. Impressive for such an old bottle (and not a reserva). Very enjoyable with the tertiary notes and went well with the hanging tender beef dish that night.

June 5, 2013 - Raisiny to appley fruit on the nose with a touch of acetone. Rather complex aromatics with notes of liquorice, lilacs, brown sugar, pepper, caramel, allspice and slight citrusy whiff.
Medium bodied palate with an acidic bite to the raisiny and slightly oxidated dried fruit. The mid-palate feels a tad hollow, but the aromatics are intriguing with graphite, dusty earth and leather. Good length.
My first impression was that this is clearly past its prime, but it soon picked up the pace; the fruit got considerably brighter and even the palate felt a bit more full. Very nice after all. Complex aromatics.
