Community Tasting Notes 12

October 13, 2021 - Casual dinner at Testacio: New producer for me. Classic and traditional profile with lots of boastful and rich 2004 cherry and plum fruit. Tar notes and fresh cut florals add some degree of nuance, but this will be better in a decade. Upside from here.

October 13, 2021 - Dinner at Testaccio (Chicago, IL): A new producer for me. Quite a convincing first experience though, even if this bottle is far more fruit-forward and juicy than I would expect for a 2004 Barolo. No barrique here (at least that I could taste), which is the number one requirement for nebbiolo. Juicy and sweet, with fruit flavours that are more akin to stone fruit than berries. Supple tannins on the back end, this holds its 15% abv incredibly well.

June 30, 2020 - Excellent if not outstanding showing. Ample amounts of cherries, damp earth, conifer, and smoke are laced with traces of complex bottle age. Powerful and elegant, great body and integration, with succulent spices and absolutely no distraction from the 15% ABV. Lovely red fruit persistence drives the tasty finish.

August 30, 2019 - Dark red color with hints of brown and a bit cloudy. Some dirt and citrus notes in the bouquet. At first the wine was a bit dry and harsh, but after a little while it revealed dark fruit, plenty of earth, some complexity, and manageable tannins. This bottle seemed slightly past its prime, but still a decent showing for the price point.

April 2, 2019 - At first showing alcohol on nose and palate, after an hour settled down. Bricking at rim. Red fruit, violets, leather, cinnamon on the nose; very dark fruited rich palate with great intensity and length. Showing a bit older than I expect for a 2004, but very tasty and I like the development. 15% alcohol is surprising but makes this very smooth.
