September 28, 2019 - Luscious dark berries and chocolate on the palate with some black pepper on the finish.
A little complexity without many secondary flavors, and balanced. This should improve but good now.
June 16, 2019 - Seriously??? Of all my Cayuse wines, THIS is the one that has to be corked/affected???
Color: opaque/dark ruby -> deep ruby rim with the barest hint of garnet.
Nose was distinctly off: stewed vegetables mixed into a generic red wine showing little to no structure and a short finish . . . .
Vacu-vinned and held for a day hoping things would develop positively but it was not to be. Purchased from Cayuse and while my other bottles have been stellar, this one definitely affected. Ah well . . . .
April 21, 2019 - Note was written later. Although packed with flavor more elegant and less extracted than some of my other Cayuse wines. I agree that the funk is there but well integrated and not overdone. I just hope this indicates that with age it will lighten up in my younger bottles of Cayuse wines. Very nice bottle, went well with food. Very well put together.
April 21, 2019 - More elegant and peppery than your standard Cayuse. Took a minute to open up. Tobacco, meaty, beef blood, Rhône central. Dark dark red berry. Leather. Bacon fat. Love it. Amazing. Cayuse funk is there but in check.
March 23, 2019 - This is the oldest Cayuse Syrah I've had, and it has aged wonderfully. The smoothness and maturity were impressive, and the classic BF characters were only slightly subdued. Overall, the wine is fantastic and remarkably different than the feisty younger vintages I've had recently.
January 18, 2019 - Lyon and Woodward Frenzy (Woodyville): My WOTWeekend! Great depth and SOooo complex. I think 10 people in a room could name 5 descriptors each and there would be little overlap. The Cayuse funk is there but hides in the shadows of the dark fruit and savories. Wow again: 96+. Now-2025
December 27, 2018 - Happy 15 years Elizabethy!
December 16, 2018 - An incredible experience. Was intense and “smack you in the face” upon opening, but evolved quickly over the next 30 minutes. I decanted for an hour or so and put back in the bottle. The nose immediately reminded me of burnt earth, leather, black olives, layered with a sweet plum and dark cherry. On the palate, it was more the same but my God this is complex. Blood, more olive tempanade comes to the party with a bit of rosemary and a hint of fresh cut grass layering beneath the deep dark fruits. Body is perfect and the length is medium long. What a great showing. Lovely.
May 1, 2018 - Let breathe for 90 minutes. What other wine tastes like this? It has a definite Northern Rhône meaty, leathery, earthy aspect, but just uniquely its own wonderful thing.
