November 18, 2023 - While this is mature and showing plenty of dried florals and road tar, the fruit is still plenty rich and sweet. A very good at peak Barbaresco.

November 18, 2023 - Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VIII (Chicago, IL): Mature, but still showing plenty of fruit and some sweetness. It feels like this was harvested quite late, in that the plushness of the fruit is on full display (which isn't something I've always found in nebbiolo of this era). Fully mature tannins, this is at peak and not likely to improve with more age, but is impressive in stature now and quite enjoyable. The story of this wine, of course, is that it is the progenitor of Gaja's Sito Moresco.

January 31, 2023 - Cedar, lean sweet light cherry-liccorice; supporting tannin; long sweet finish.

October 19, 2013 - At Cousin Ron's, Evansville, 2/2013. Opened casually to sip while we were attending to other bottles for the big wine dinner. Seamless, stunning, integrated nose and palate, light in texture, tannins quite resolved. Strawberries, incense, leather, with great harmony, and lissome texture, still has a great future but at peak amd holding if well stored.
At Romain What Is So Rare? Dinner prelude. Deserves more attention than we could give it under the circumsances.

May 14, 2013 - Now we're talking. Classic Barbaresco with those blackish, tarry nebbiolo flavors on a more slick and slender frame than Barolo, seasoned with a touch of rosemary-like herbality. The structure is totally resolved so this really has a polished, glossy sheen to it, like a supple black leather jacket of a wine.
