Community Tasting Notes 17

December 25, 2016 - Christmas in the OC with family and friends, pulled this bottle as part of my "forgotten bottles" project. Last bottles were 4+ years ago. Splash decant, drank over 30 minutes

Nice dark fruit nose. Palate of dark cherry, black raspberry, stawberry compote. Medium mouthfeel, nicely balanced. Tannins sweetened and resolved. Medium, layered finish.

This is in a really good spot right now - consistent with most of my tastings of the 06 Napa vintage (may have been an underappreciated vintage). From memory, this has added complexity and depth since last tasting. Should drink at this level for another 5-7 years...

I understand the guys at Garric are closing up - 14 is their last vintage. This has turned out to be a very nice wine (and great QPR). Wishing them luck in their next chapter.

November 9, 2013 - This was my 2nd bottle. My experience this time around was much better, leading me to question the solidity of my subjective judgement. That said, I noted this time around a refined quality in the mouthfeel of this wine. After a day, I noted a slight blueberry on the nose. Classic California cabernet. Nothing so out of the ordinary.

July 15, 2013 - Hmm. Clearly made well but the flavor is decidedly not my preferred style. Improved the second day but not enough to win me over. I kept thinking celery seed both on the nose and palate at first but settles down. Cassis in there for sure. Some nice flowery fruitiness wants to break through on the nose but just can't deliver. I did like the body though. Neither heavy nor thin with some good acidity hanging in there. A touch too much alcohol though and finishes a little dry. This is a strange one. From a magnum. No idea how to score this one.

April 28, 2013 - Interesting. A pretty muted nose that smells a touch alcoholic yet the wine is plush and very mellow on the palate and comes off refined and elegant. Not a big wine nor a particularly long finish but overall it is well made and enjoyable
