December 16, 2023 - Black cherry and fine cigar box on the nose. Complex palate with pomegranate mixed in with the dark cherry, and a juicy lift and a slight spice lead to a long finish. Well done….from tasting a few other time….i don’t sense these are declining as much as evolving.

June 2, 2021 - Cork broke in half upon attempting to open. The remainder was firmly stuck to the glass, resisting even the ah-so and ultimately crumbling into the wine. Interestingly the cork was not compromised in the sense that it broke into firm chunks rather than dust. Once the wine was decanted and bits of cork removed the wine was actually quite good. Mature bordeaux vibes with a bit of Washington edge to the tannin and fruit intensity. Probably best with about five more years really but no harm in drinking now.

April 11, 2021 - Probably at peak for me.
Color showed some bricking.
Nose is lovely, with sweet tobacco, integrated cherry and earth notes. Nicely complex.
Palate is dense, complex, and very consistent with the nose.
Long smooth finish.
Would buy again. -

March 26, 2021 - Still holding up, and better than it was 6 years ago. Tannins now fully resolved, so the slightly elevated acid must be what’s keeping it together, and also making it quite food friendly at this point. You’ll want to drink much of this on its own, however, because the nose is showing great expression and complexity.

October 9, 2020 - Opened, gave it 2 hours of air. Mouth was too strong of meat and iron. Reformed and put it away for the next night. Softened nicely, still a big wine. Heavy syrah like character and overall a bit much for us.

3/8/2009 (link) **** points(Betz Family Winery Clos de Betz Columbia Valley) Reasonably quiet on the nose on first pour with roasted meats, roasted red pepper, and light herbs. Lighter and more refined on the palate than one would expect for such a dark wine. Elegant with silky smooth tannins. A bit tart right now with some uneven spots. Needs bottle time to come together. Give 2 years. 47% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec. 41% Horse Heaven Hills, 31% Yakima Valley, 28% Red Mountain. Sampled at 61 degrees.
