May 18, 2023 - couldn't say no to the price of this bottle. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised.

This wine has life and tons of it. Dark red coloring with rust edges. It most definitely needs air. After 45 minutes to an hour, this wine shows vibrant red cherries, wood, and cocoa.

On the palate, this wine initially showed little fruit and strong burnt wood notes, but after the right amount of air time, it opened up to red cherries, dried red fruit, leather, and earth floor, which got stronger and stronger. That initial burnt-wood taste didn't disappear but faded as the other notes grew.

I initially thought this bottle was a dud. But the more air it got, the better it became. After the cork was pulled, this wine had almost no tannins and little acidity. After 90 minutes, it became young again. Mouth-puckering tannins with great balanced acidity

This bottle doesn't have the accolades to make heads turn on the shelf, but if you are able to come across it, I highly recommend it. An affordable Margaux with 23 years of age. It's worth the risk!

It was a great experience that I wasn't expecting when I pulled the cork. One of the many great reasons why we all love wine!

April 9, 2023 - Experience similar to bottle tasted on 8/24/2022. Just adding another note to say how remarkable the last few years have been in the development of this wine. The cork crumbled in half but the bottom came out cleanly. This had a very rich bouquet and very dark color. Again medium bodied but seemed even sweeter than the last bottle. Some black pepper in the tannin, which remains supportive. Well balanced, vital, and really a strong experience of well-aged claret. Very rewarding, cellaring this one for the past 20 or 18 years.

August 24, 2022 - Surprised I don't already have a note on hear about this wine. This would be bottle #10 of a case purchased close to release, if not as a future. This was certainly a very old school, high, tight and light wine for many years. Pretty sure the last bottle or two have shown like tonights, which is a nice demonstration that even some, or perhaps many, cru bourgeois, if that's still a term that is allowed, produced in a classic style, will reward ageing. Some deep cherry scents leavened with old, dry wood and then a whiff of confectioner's spun sugar. Medium bodied at most (some would say I am being generous) and the flavors track the bouquet. Finishes well, lightly tannic, lightly acidic, and persistent. A food wine, and isn't that the point? Good stuff, will open those other two bottles on the anniversary +/- of this, or when someone wants to try a well-aged claret.
