February 20, 2016 - They don't make 'em like they used to (New York City, NY): There was some talk that this was corked, but I didn't notice it. That said, this was quite funky. Restrained, perfumed, and smoky on the nose. Quite light, with fresh acidity on the palate. This struck me as a bit simple, without too much power. I'm told other bottles have been more powerful and meaty, but that just wasn't the case tonight.

February 20, 2016 - Excessibe Rhone and Riesling night (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): Some debate on the table whether this might be corked. This didn't have the vivid meaty/leathery character I typically expect from Gallet, but I found plenty of red and dark fruit tinged with more savoury earthy and slightly funky, dirty notes (maybe what others identified as TCA?) I didn't notice any overt TCA, though it certainly didn't show the intensity or depth of previous bottles and seemed to be missing a couple of gears.

February 18, 2016 - Medium-light red-violet color. Thundering nose: violets in a smokehouse, raspberry, Earl Grey tea. On arrival, medium-low tannin and medium-low acidity; elegance, a Gallet pattern. Raspberry and bacon from the nose repeat in the mouth with garrigue. Reminds me of early 1980's Guigal B&B Cote Rotie, and well, this vineyard was a big component of those wines. Terrific finish and matched well to our Carne Asada tacos and pinquito beans. Bottle #10 of twelve.

January 23, 2016 - At first nothing, took 2 hours to open, then it was pretty much as one expects of a well made Cote Rotie of this age. Some spice, some acid, a little meaty, decent fruit. (A perfect match for a beef/bean stew flavored with smoked duck legs & sausage. )

December 8, 2015 - Olives, smoke, savory aromatics and a cool black fruit with nice acidic lift. Could only be from one place on earth.

Rockss and Fruit

(Henri Gallet Cote Rotie) Violets, violets, violets. Definetly on the floral side of Cote Rotie with also hints of blueberries, blood, beef and leather. Incredible nose. Juicy palate with impressive concentration and lots of sweet blueberry and raspbery fruit. This closed down in the glass after around an hour but did develop incredible secondary nuances on the nose. Hold for 5 to 8 years. Went brillantly with Peking Duck at Tse-Yang.
