Community Tasting Notes 7

February 7, 2020 - Not showing well at all. Hot, jammy, boozy. Very volatile in the nose. Yuck.

November 12, 2019 - The wine pours a hazy black/purple in color to the rim, showing lots of extraction in the glass. I don't see any age in this wine. Opening aromas of black pepper, spent coffee grounds, vanilla, and blackberry syrup- moving to some funky bretty notes, cured meats, olives, and sweet oak. In the mouth, the wine is massive and oily. Flavors of syrupy black fruits, black olives, dried herbs, and earth. I get a lot of retro-nasal bretty notes that make the wine really interesting. The wine drinks like a marching band walking past you, going from quiet to loud, louder, loudest, then fading back down. All the bells and whistles. What really stuck out was the underlying sweetness subduing the acidity (rather the lack of acidity). I feel that the wine could have done without that sweetness to really let the brett shine.

December 3, 2011 - Subdued fruit with an underlying earthiness. Strong notes of pepper (perhaps a touch too strong). Drinking near it's peak.

July 2, 2011 - Like most Zaca wines, this one is so dark. The cork is stained black. Black fruit mixed with barnyard. Incredibly concentrated but still balanced. Intense black fruit with nice tannins. Long finish.

February 27, 2011 - Wine Club: Epic Syrah Smackdown (The Abarnment): This probably didn't get a fair shake after such a lineup, but I enjoyed it. It lacked in complexity, but it made it up in pure deliciousness.
