Community Tasting Notes 4

December 27, 2014 - Xmas dinner. Good advancement of fruit on the nose, getting savory tertiary umami characteristics. Darker fruit, full body, toasty/smokey accent. Loses some momentum on the finish, some disjointed bitter flavors. Tannins are well resolved, seems to be ready, maybe even on the downslope.

November 29, 2013 - Big, tasty blend. A little tight on opening, but opened up after a bit. Don't associate Santa Barbara County with Bordeaux blends, but this was nice. And a great bargain. (and the label is fun!)

April 18, 2009 - Just not quite coming together for me. Vanilla, clove and nutmeg from oak is a little too apparent. But there is leafiness, raspberry, blueberry and chocolate as well. The palate is quite masculine with loads of sour cherry and bitter dark chocolate. It doesn't feel quite as heavy as a ~15% ABV wine, though the alcohol peaks through on occasion on the finish. The oak on the palate is well integrated lending a smoothness to the tannins that is seductive. The tannins are fairly prominent at this point. There's basically lots of everything in here: acidity, bitterness and sweetness are all packing a serious punch.

I'd give this some time as the raw materials are all there. The low pH bodes well for development.
