Community Tasting Notes 4

August 6, 2006 - This was quite different from the other bottle I had some months back. While the first one was much more mineral and elegant this one was definately more fruity and powerful. I believe the merlot was standing out this time with plums and a slight caramel on the nose and a more concentrated palate. Silky and very well balanced, expansive and full bodied with mouthfilling fruit. Didn't show the elegance that I expected from the last time, but instead it showed more power and opulence.

July 31, 2006 - A handful of Italians, no Tuscany/Piedmont Allowed (Columbus, OH): Surprisingly forward and powerful nose. Roasted cassis and dark fruits mineral notes. Persistent and dense with rustic flavors and a balanced, hard tannic finish. The style may not be capable of the distinctiveness or heights of the Gravner whites, but a very good wine with plenty of character.

July 31, 2006 - Italy is more than Tuscany and Piemonte, capiche? (Casa mia, Columbus Ohio): Dark purple. Rich fruit and pencil on the nose - almost Paulliac, but a bit spicier. Solid structured fruit. Nice gravel notes. Good tannins and balance. Nice acidic backbone. Curranty notes, a bit of flesh and smoke. Great depth and character. Long finish with mostly fruit and a great feel. Really delicious - expected something more unusual, though it should not a fault that it was not, but then again it may be a fault that this was also a wine w/o a home. Nonetheless, an excellent wine.

February 17, 2006 - Dark rubi to purple color. Very unique mineral notes, quite distinctive of it's own terroir. Silky and rounded, but a little hollow on the mid-palate. Nice complex finish.
