August 23, 2021 - Deep red color. On the nose blueberries, blackberries. Lovely. Still intense fruit but elegant. Blueberries, blackberries, roasted meat. Softens and becomes more red fruited with air. Fine tannins, good acidity, lovely balance. Bit of anise on the midpalate. Finishes with intense dark fruits and black pepper, but the faintest bit of a sour note. Perhaps a bit past peak but still lovely. I'd drink over the next 3 years or so.

December 1, 2020 - Agree with note from C Cairns last year. This is deep, dark violet in color. Nose somewhat closed with charred meat notes, blackberry and a hint of mint. Palate has dense fruit weight, with prominent, gritty tannins and a good dose of acidity; balanced towards tannins at this point. Even at 13 years of age, this is on the young side with the exception that the earlier, overt primary fruit nose and flavors are not present. I'm hoping that the fruit may re-emerge or be transitioning to more secondary expression. This could sit for 5-15 more years.

August 12, 2019 - Meaty, lavender nose. Intense dark fruits on the palate. On first opening, it is just a block of big fruit. That changes as it gets time to air and warm up a bit. The fruit takes on a more elegant note. Blackberries, roast meat, pepper. Firm tannins, nice acidity and balance. The fruit carries across the palate. Moderate finish of soft dark fruit and bright acidity. No signs of fading yet, but I'd drink over the next 4 or 5 years.

November 25, 2018 - Despite being 11 years old, wine is drinking not only well but fresh and vibrant. Nose is dark fruit centric especially blueberries like pie. Acidity is still present throughout but finish is long and tannin still playing a role. Can last another 5+ years

    October 17, 2018 - Pure savory.
Not much fruit, green olives, green herbs, meaty.
    Very fresh and smooth.
    Enjoyable for Syrah geeks.

(Copain Syrah Garys' Vineyard) Very dark purple red violet color; lovely roasted plum, green peppercorn nose; big, tight, but tasty, green peppercorn, tart black fruit, menthol palate; medium-plus finish (needs 4 to 6 years)

(Copain Syrah Garys' Vineyard) Barrel sample - (100% whole cluster, in a previously used barrel) - meaty, roasted meat and smoke nose; very exciting, and Cornas-like, with distinct green peppercorn notes; long finish 93-97 pts.
