March 8, 2024 - A very passable impersonation of a classy LB Bordeaux. Still plenty left in the tank

October 24, 2023 - Very nice wine with sweet fruit. Cassis, blackberries, cedar, leather and smooth and well integrated tannins. I would not have expected this from the 202 vintage. Enjoy it now.

April 26, 2020 - In the nose warm earthiness, cedar, blackberries, cassis and the typical warm herbal touch I associate with Stellenbosch. On the palate cherries, blackberries, well-integrated but a little woody oak with some fine vanilla and cedar. Slight alcohol heat but no problem at all.
Decent length with delicious tobacco tones and lapsang suchong in the aftertaste. Ripe, sweet fruit without being jammy with fine tannins.

Old-school South Africa with an extra dose of herb and heat on an otherwise classic Bordeaux structure. Very enjoyable, well developed but still some good vigour and freshness in the sweet fruit and a brilliant companion to the club steak with red wine sauce.

December 13, 2013 - Very good. Did not make tasting notes. But nice dusty tannins. Good fruit. Very much like a muscular cabernet/bordeaux blend. Better than I was anticipating. I would not call this an over the top new world wine. It seemed to be coming together, much more integrated, than some of the other tasting notes suggest.

December 18, 2011 - The top of the range red. Medium-full bodied this classic mix of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon plus a bit of Merlot and Cabernet Franc weighs in at 14.5%. Bags of black fruit flavours, but it is all a little over-extracted and heavy handed for my liking. Tremendous power and structure, but at the expense of elegance. Although not to my taste (I do like a little bit of subtlety and finesse in my wines) it is still an impressive effort, although I keep thinking that with this quality of raw material to hand how much better it would be with a lighter touch and 1% less alcohol. Recommended for those who like a concentrated New World style of winemaking. Unlike other notes on here this example was by no means fading and has bags of life left in it. Estimated maturity: 2011-2015+
