June 2, 2009 - Very jammy and fruit-forward. Lots of mouth feel and developed flavors of blackberry. Paired well with grilled flank steak.

January 23, 2009 - Noticeably better this time. Softer than the '06, with some baking spice-type flavors complementing the big red fruit. An easygoing zinfandel, it lacks the structure and concentration of the '06 but still tastes good and doesn't cost much.

December 1, 2008 - Ancient Peaks' 2006 zin is gorgeous, so when I found the '05 on clearance for $6.50 a bottle I bought several. This was the winery's first vintage, and from what I could tell winemaker Mike Sinor wasn't yet on board, so I wasn't surprised to find it didn't measure up to the '06. The balance seemed a bit out of whack, with a sharp streak of green oak undermining the bright red berry flavors. Still, this is great fruit for such an inexpensive wine, and at the price I'm glad I stocked up.
