August 11, 2020 - I decided to check on these bottles after grilling a couple of NY strips. I couldn't find an ah-so and ended up using a regular waiter's corkscrew. Cork disintegrated. Strained the liquid through a cheese cloth. Didn't harm the wine. Opaque. Nose was expressive with a warm blackberry/blueberry compote, tar, and cocoa. Palate was full-bodied with delicious dark cherries. Tannins are mostly integrated. Good acidity to keep things fresh and balanced. This is open for business. Agree with the last couple of tasting notes.

July 25, 2020 - Time to try the next bottle of my old case of this. Opened 2 hours. On the nose is ripe plum with a bit of cherry. On the palate: wonderful rich concentrated plums, cherry, dark chocolate, mushroom and some funk/smoke at the end. This is delicious, world class and elegant wine. I scored 2 higher than 1.5 years ago. The wine is in great place right now and I am very happy I have the rest of the case to enjoy in the next years.

April 3, 2020 - Just now starting to open up. Incredibly lush, luxurious saturation, this may be the sexiest bottle of “young” Monte Bello I’ve ever tried. It is just ringing with tart black cherry, earthy beets, and dark anise. So deliciously complex. All this from a split. Magnums are going to take a long time.

March 22, 2020 - Bad cork but was able to filter and decant. Very aromatic with warm cedar, dark fruit, and menthol. Oaky dark cherry flavors with lots of acidity on a lengthy cedar and berry finish.

January 4, 2020 - Just started to show it’s great potential when the inevitable TCA spoiled every further comments :-(

(Ridge Monte Bello) Medium dark ruby color with slight bricking; lovely, lifted, raspberry, ripe plum, herbal, seaweed nose; tasty, silky textured, maturing but still youthful, tart cassis, cedar, herbal, dried seaweed palate; long finish (72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot)

(Ridge Monte Bello) Very dark red violet color; berry, cassis, beets, beef jus nose; maturing, beef jus, green peppercorn, berry, iron, black fruit and fig palate; medium-plus finish (on a faster evolutionary track than the average Monte Bello, but still elegant and with years ahead of it)

(Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon) Wow! This has a very expressive nose, with piles of pure, deep, blue and black fruits on the nose. The palate is rather svelte, structured and yet balanced, rather more elegant than obvious. Rich, impressive wine, deep and spicy, with a core of ripe tannins which rally on the finish. Excellent, with great potential still.
