February 25, 2023 - Pale, cloudy ruby with plenty of garnet. Honestly, I held on to this bottle for sentimental reasons - it was signed by the Calhoun family several years before the 2011 sale. While still offering some classic California Pinot Noir aromas of dried red and back fruits, cola and toast, this was thin and hollow on the palate. Alas.
February 20, 2022 - Bought on release and cellared. Rich, balanced and elegant. Not very complex but holding very well, possibly in part to the 14.9% abv. Nothing to gain with additional age.
August 3, 2017 - Fantastic wine, PnP. Still has great fruit and structure. This is at its apex and i recommend drinking now. Red fruits, savory mushroom, etc.
March 15, 2015 - Drinking very nicely, - Very nice fruit and balance, a lovely pinot and long magnum. Drink now...
April 29, 2012 - Awesome as usual
July 20, 2011 - excellent pinot great fruit one of cali's top pinot noir
October 9, 2010 - Wonderful wine, full and complex. And versatile - it went beautifully with salmon, pumpkin pasta and short-ribs. Needs a short decant to really open up.
March 2, 2009 - This was a great wine! Well integrated acidity. Fruit is there, but also an earthiness and tannic structure to support it all through the mid-palate. Finish was smooth and kept going for a while.
November 15, 2008 - Chicago Pinot Days-2008 (Navy Pier, Chicago IL): nose: bright red cherry tones with some candied and creamed fruits, raspberries, and some tart tones of wild berries
taste: nice medium body, but a bit of heat detracts with creamed red fruits, red cherries, and candy tones
overall: A bit hollow on the mid palate too, to go along with the bit of heat. Good medium acidity, this needs a bit of time to flesh out, but has the kanzler trademark candied fruit that will work with fans of this style
