Community Tasting Notes 3

June 12, 2013 - A Sunday BBQ with some Shiraz; 6/9/2013-6/12/2013 (The Garden): Mclaren Vale is my favorite wine region for Shiraz and this is one of the best wines I have had from the area. Its at its peak now, with a lovely mineral nose, tobacco and red fruits. As well as being quite complex, its got bags of pure fruit backed up by food friendly acidity. A really great and underrated wine. Shame it was the last bottle.

April 11, 2011 - Really loved this when it came out and I´ve been looking forward to trying it again. Unlike the Katnook and the Eilleen Hardy, this doesn´t seem to
have budged at all. Still very primary, with lots of black fruit. Smooth and fruity and very drinkable, but lacking in finesse. 1 left and it may well eventually improve, but at the moment I regret not drinking it when it was very young.

August 4, 2003 - A combination of grapes sourced from vineyards planted in 1969 and 1973 on the Chalk Hill vineyard in McLaren Vale. Colour: Dark blood red. Nose: seems a fraction tight with some faint minty medicinal flavours. Some sweetness lurking. Palate: medium bodied, smooth and very comfortable mouthfeel. Not simple ro overblown, balanced with persistent fruit. perhaps the benefits of age at 6 years. Some nice tar and licoricenotes but these are quite subtle, more about mouthfeel, balance and great length with some spice. Still well backed with acid and tannin. Oak in the background. A great wine. Needs just a touch more upfront fruit.
