January 26, 2024 - This wine has big fruit, big oak, and big alcohol yet it still feels well balanced. Decanted and poured, the color is deep black with a maroon rim. Little signs of age visually as the wine is still very concentrated in color.

Crème de cassis, balsamic vinegar, and waves of big vanilla on the nose. There is also slight vegetable notes like raw celery in the high note. The nose is intense and wafts out of the glass at nearest approach.

On the palate the wine is viscous, coating the mouth with big blackberries and currants. There’s also strong black coffee and chocolate liquor notes here. On the whole, the wine lacks balance on the palate as it has limited acidity that makes the wine somewhat taxing without food. Finishing a whole bottle of this would be a bit difficult without a piece of meat or a red sauce pasta.

High quality winemaking here in a distinctly classic Napa style. While I prefer slightly lower alcohol bordeaux style cabernets with a bit more acidity, this wine is a great expression of classic Napa cab. Not showing signs of age just yet, this wine will be great for another 8-10 years. Overall: 93

February 12, 2023 - Cork was pristine, drinking well. Decent nose, full-bodied with very smooth integrated fruit. Excellent to pair with meat (if not ideal with cingiale).

March 16, 2022 - Covolo's 2002 Napa Cab tasting (Casa Covolo): Showed very young and large scaled. Rich dark fruits on the nose, some stones and minerals. Earthy finish, with some spice. The palate was well integrated. Overall still had a lot of guts, and a very complex nose. This and the backus appeared to have the most life ahead of it. Finished 1 of 8 in tasting of 2002 Napa cabs.

May 13, 2021 - Beautiful, rich, and creamy. Blackberry and black cherry fruit. Notes of milk chocolate, black licorice, baking spice, and toasty oak. Smooth and supple tannins, nicely balanced on the long finish. Great spot to enjoy right now.

November 18, 2020 - So it's possible I missed the boat on this one. May have been better 5 years ago. Rich and dry with dark fruit. Nose is dusty. About half a glass left on day two and held up. But not to an hedonistic new world fan like the missus.
