October 18, 2023 - This came from a passive cellar in the basement of a San Francisco home. Fill was good at the bottom of the neck. Cork was saturated on the sides but no leakage. To my surprise there was still life here. Clearly past it’s prime but far from dead. Quit oaky on the nose, garnet color with slight brownish clear bricking on the edge. In the mouth a pleasant mix of mushrooms, cedar and pencil lead.

September 23, 2023 - This was great and as good as you could expect for a 79 Bordeaux. Pretty classic mature Pauillac notes here (Cedar, leather, darker fruits, old books and a hint of menthol. Mostly resolved structure at this point but hanging on and offering a lot of pleasure.

August 23, 2023 - Good fill, from perfect known provenance, and decanted 60 minutes. Surprisingly deep garnet with slight bricking on the edges. Medium bodied. High acid given the fading fruit -so slightly imbalanced. Cedar, smoke, tobacco leaf, cassis, black currant, rocky minerals, saddle leather, menthol and a slight green herbal note. Clearly not a great vintage, nor a great Lynch- but over performed and still showing as a very good aged claret. Good match with Flannery Zabuton slow cooked and reverse seared. And it’s Wednesday!

April 16, 2023 - Opened with Durand and decanted 10 hours before dinner. Drank in a Zalto Bordeaux glass.

Nose was strong, with cedar, black tea, scorched earth, roasted meats, lots of smoke. Not the most pleasant of bouquets.

Palate was still quite alive, displaying cassis, earth, cedar oak, and black tea. Also hints of herbs. Tannin is mostly resolved. Finish was silky, but slightly watery and of medium length.

Overall, nice showing for a 44 year old wine from just a decent vintage. Didn’t knock my socks off, but was a great accompaniment to a Wagyu steak dinner that helped it taste better too. Drink now.

April 25, 2022 - Still in wonderful condition, this brick-red ‘79 combines light berry fruits with very strong tea-leaf character. The ullage on this bottle was superb, and bottle variation is likely at this age. But this wine was in lovely condition - medium bodied, balanced, elegant and long. Cedar wood and tea dominated the nose after an hour in a decanter. Prunes, plums and blackcurrants mix on the palate. A pleasure to drink and a fine example of the village of Paulliac.

December 25, 2021 - Chalky, dense, smoky red wine. This wine is still "young" so should age for several more years. Structure in deep and strong. Finish is good.

July 19, 2021 - 15 Mature Bordeauxs Magnums (with Heitz MV in the mix): From double magnum. No detailed notes taken. On the nose this had an ugly smell of a wet dog. Even with a lot of swirling and time, this remained the dominating factor till the end. Fortunately, the palate showed a bit better with a nice dark fruit core and a beautiful creaminess but all in all this never really shined.
