July 22, 2023 - Over the hill, but after an initial very watery showing on opening, it grew and kind of showed a bit of what it probably was 10-15 years ago after 2 hours in decanter. A lot of green notes and light and elegant on the palate.

June 19, 2023 - Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion Tasting and Dinner (Winefield's Auctioneers, Amsterdam, NL): Light body but with a nice mature sweetness, fresh and lively, lovely aroma, acidity is just starting to separate, lovely cedary and sweet finish.

March 10, 2012 - La Mission Haut Brion; 3/9/2012-3/10/2012 (Burg Staufeneck): This was not heavy, even thin, but very pleasant. Slightly green nose, but sweet on the palate.

March 9, 2012 - Some bricking on the edges with a cloudy garnet coloration. Nose opens with a smokey, leather lead pencil bouquet. Nose quickly develops to include smokey red fruits and black currents. Decided not to decant due to its age. Comes into the mouth with an elegant smooth flavor of lite red berries, the mildest hint of tobacco, oak and ceder. Much lighter than a typical vintage of this great wine due 1987 not being a stellar year. Glad I opened it, because it only would have gone downhill. Score would have been higher if I drank it earlier.

July 15, 2009 - Mid Jul 2009 at “Buffalo” Steakhouse: rubin red color; intense aromas/flavors of cassis, cherry and blackberry, plus coffee and chocolate; light/medium body; round texture.

Excellent classic, mature Claret from a mediocre vintage.
