Community Tasting Notes 20

  • mark.zinner Does not like this wine:

December 1, 2022 - Maybe flawed? Maybe not. Just tired over wrought aussie juice not particularly attractive and shrill on the shortish finish. Some eucalyptus interfering with any fruit that may have been discernable but probably not. Did not like like.

January 28, 2020 - Ever so slightly that funny over the hill thing, not the fruit but the off taste. You all know what I mean. Past that, the overall taste is not bad. Solid 90. Usual blueberries, raspberries and plum. Still not bad for the price of $20.

August 11, 2019 - Still nice dark berries permeate. A little dry on the aftertaste but excellent for a 21 year effort.

October 6, 2017 - This is a perfect example of the issue with these big Aussie Syrahs - they need 15 to 20 years to integrate and come into balance. This has really improved in my cold cellar. Dark purple but translucent color. Blueberry and sandalwood scents with a nice sweet honeysuckle note on the nose. Smooth and seamless on the palate with nice blue fruit and good acidity to keep it fresh. Just a slight touch of oaky tannins provides a slight dryness on the finish. Really nice without being thick or over the top. I'd drink this up before it dries out any more. Good match for BBQ or a steak. Nice value too at the current auction price.

July 29, 2017 - Served alongside 13 other reds - generally of much higher price - and this was a crowd favorite at my summer party. Still drinking very, very well. Well balanced and satisfying.
