December 27, 2016 - Bright garnet in color. Nose of dark berries and tobacco. Tastes of cherries, expresso, and hints of mint and eucalyptus. Interesting, with great acidity and purity. Complicated for food. At its peak, but several years left.

November 29, 2014 - Well beyond its prime, was thin and bitter. Showed a little better on day 2.

May 3, 2012 - This wine is 90% Teroldego and !0% Syrah, which makes for a very subtle bitterness in the finish. A full flavor, with plum and raisin predominating. A very nice wine. I detected no fade or tiredness in the wine, despite the dating consensus that it should be drunk by 2012.

December 7, 2011 - A gift from Ray we drank this with eggplant rotellini and pasta. By itself without the food and right after popping it was very sour to the point that Ray exclaimed it puckered your mouth like a grapefruit and not like dry tannins. After some time and with food this wine got interesting but alas the bottle was empty by then!

July 27, 2011 - The nose is dominated by dense notes of blackberry and blackcurrant preserves with secondary tones of black cherries, black pepper, and some interesting huckleberry and violet elements.

It is ripe, tender, and berry toned on the palate. Dusty with a fresh acidity, the flavor profile shows notes of dried huckleberry, blackberry, and red currant. Slight kitchen spice and a faint rustiness also show around the edges, giving this wine an interesting earthy quality.

(Castellani La Cattura) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-wild; heavy dose of gingerbread man; little sour cherry juice on the very back-end; TASTE-very focused flavor; very earthy on the mid-palate; obvious cassis juice; undeniable cranberry component; very dry on the back palate; some roasted nuts in your mouth; rubber band action; pencil shavings on the back-end; heavy cranberry & cassis; very intriguing, solid, but this doesn't combine seamlessly; but well worth your while to expand your palate; some plum on the back-end; very dry & complex; a very young & may do well w/ some cellar time; WS-90; GV-88
