February 27, 2023 - In a really good spot right now. Notes of plum, fig, earth, tobacco, and spice. Supple on the palate with good grip on the finish. Balanced. Not a super complex wine, but very food friendly and enjoyable to drink.

November 12, 2015 - This is mature looking - a dark, semi-opaque purple in color, lightening at the edge, with some slight bricking. Really attractive on the nose. Powerful aromas of spice, cedar and ripe dark fruits fill the glass. Full-bodied and rich, but not heavy in weight. Very, very smooth in texture and bursting with ripe, juicy boysenberry and dark currant fruit. The Syrah in the blend is very evident. Shows excellent depth and intensity. The long, polished finish is silky smooth and loaded with mouthwatering fruit and hints of oak and spice. The tannins have integrated perfectly, giving this a sleek, velvety mouthfeel. So gorgeous and delicious. Wish I had more of this.

December 31, 2014 - Writing this the next day, so no detailed notes. No barnyard funk this time around. Decanted for an hour, and lots of delicious fruit right off the bat. Very nicely balanced, full bodied (but supple), and delicious.

November 16, 2014 - Undoubtedly the best of my three, sulfur odors had largely disappeared revealing ripe juicy fruit underneath a dulling tannin. I think the fruit is receding and this should be on a short leash.

May 25, 2014 - Had with lasagna and was a wonderful mwtch. I find that this is drinking very well now and would not wait much longer. Last bottle I am afraid but it died a valiant death!

(MEDITERRA Poggio al Tessoro) 2006 Tuscany Dear Friends, The excitement over the 2006 vintage in Tuscany is palpable and there are many wines with a stunning level of energy and determination. With 2004 already in many of our cellars, 2006 presents an opportunity to experience a slightly different style of "stunning" - think 1989 vs 1990 Bordeaux (in this case, 2004 in Tuscany is akin to 1989 and 2006 to 1990). If you are into the sultry style of the 1990 Right Bank wines, you will find much to admire in the environs surrounding Florence and Bolgheri in 2006. From a coddled plot of vines near the Tuscan coast, this is a new wine for Bolgheri and they couldn't have picked a better vintage for a debut. As one of Europe's most expensive sites for vines (Bolgheri), when we find something of this quality for under $20 it's not only an anomaly but its worth all of your exploration. This wine really sings after 1-2 hours of open exposure when the Cabernet element comes to the fore. The Syrah provides just enough velvety fruit for the rugged Bordelaise blend of Cabernet and Merlot to fill in the gaps. At this price, this would run circles around many comparable wines from Napa or other. Maybe it's the complete quality of the vintage but this wine shows the benefit in full force: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a top value from a vintage that is going to set pricing records ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price - (we will have a second shipment in April): 2006 Poggio al Tesoro "Mediterra" It will ship during the first available shipping window this spring. Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy8701
