January 5, 2024 - Mid garnet. Surprisingly dark fruited on the nose alongside the obligatory Victorian church pew and lesser notes of leather and spice. Just lacking the orange peel element toward the finish. Initially very promising, but despite being sediment free, there’s something just a little muddied here, occluding the wine that this can be. Still very good, but lacking the clarity, energy and frisson that good bottles can generate. ***

July 4, 2023 - Slow ox hour. Medium bodied, burgundy like. Light nose of black cherry and autumn leaves. The wine should more red fruits, herbs, tobacco and spice. It has held up really well for 50 years.

January 10, 2023 - Open with Durand and served during lunch. However, last fifth of the cork remained glued to the neck of the bottle so filtering the wine in a carafe was mandatory despite accelerating its oxygenation. A textbook claret with 50 years. Brownish colour with watery edges. Aromatically it clearly decants towards notes of coffee, caramel, soaked leather or dried herbs. Simply delicious. Weak structure on the palate, gastronomic acidity, slippery on the throat. Soft aftertaste. High level of sediments. Diluted alcohol. Ethereal elixir. An oldie bottle, not dead but almost. Good but nothing happens if confess that we have taken much better. Supreme digestibility anyway.

August 31, 2021 - Popped and poured. Either this bottle needed more time to aereate or it was just not as good a bottle as two previous bottles of this I have had as this wine just didn’t have the beautiful fruit I’ve seen in other bottle. Still not a bad wine with good balance and sophistication.

October 24, 2020 - Popped and poured. Nice nose of red cherry, olives and leather but a little rustic. The palate on the other hand is outstanding and very much a live with red cherries, strawberry with complex leather and earth notes coming through. Medium bodied with fully resolved tannins but good energy this feels like it can continue to hold at this state of maturity for a long time
